PLANNING MEETINGS

Our planning meetings are usually held quarterly and are open to all Southern queer and trans identifying folks! These meetings are where we plan events, create programming, and brainstorm ideas.

ANNUAL FESTIVALS

SFQP began as a standalone festival in Atlanta that grew and developed into monthly events and programming. Our festival is our centerpiece event that is a gathering of Southern queer artists, activists, community folk, and more!

Southern Fried Queer Pride Atlanta: takes place in late June in Atlanta, GA. This is our base festival, serving as a celebration of regional Southern queer artists and more.

Southern Fried Queer Pride Durham: takes place in the Spring in Durham, North Carolina. This festival uplifts the vibrant local queer communities of North Carolina.

ARTISTIC EVENTS

SFQP believes the arts are a way to empower and enrich our Southern communities by giving platforms for our experiences, our crafts, and our voices. SFQP invests in and supplies local and regional artists with resources and training to be able to create the artistic spaces they see fit.

Weavestock: An annual stage production centering Black and Brown drag performers - their history, their range, and they're art.

Artist Talks: A series of of talks and workshops spotlighting local working artists, their experience, etc.

Cinequeer Film Fest / Film Series: This is our annual showcase highlight Southern queer and trans filmmakers. Cinequeer has also developed into a series of film screenings. 

Arts-based Workshops: These workshops are where anyone can learn basic art skills - how to stretch canvas, how to develop film, and more.

Variety Shows: We put on an array of variety shows spotlighting artists of multiple styles and genres..

Galleries: Over the years we have produced gallery shows, covering themes from self-care, the Black and PoC resilience, to sex work.

COMMUNITY & EDUCATIONAL EVENTS

Within our programming, we also produce events that focus on the needs of our community - ranging from town halls, to workshops, and more.

Queer Threads: Our thrift shop/free store where folks can find cheap/free clothing in an affirming space.

TRANS PWR Day: This event is help in November prior to National Transgender Day of Remembrance. This event is focused on uplifting and celebrating the trans & non-binary community through communing for yoga, workshops, a thrift shop, and entertainment.

Southern Fried Forums (SFF): These events are our community discussion series that often center around difficult conversations. We believe that open forum dialogues often lead to the most enlightenment and education. Past topics have included: intimate partner violence, racism in the queer community, Black queer resilience and community investment, LGBTQIQAP2+ history.

SOCIAL EVENTS

SFQP organizers host social events that create space for our community to gather, celebrate themselves, and build community with each other.

Let’s Eat - Queer + Trans Community Potlucks: These potlucks are quarterly community dinners open to all, intended to bring the community together outside of bars and nightlife.

HAWT SAUCE Dance Parties: We curate regular dance parties as way to make nightlife more diverse and inclusive, and to highlight the vibrant nightlife community that exist in the South.
